Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. – Benjamin Franklin

Currently Teaching

I am a Business Technology Education teacher currently teaching at Burton Center for Arts & Technology in the Center for Mass Communication. This is a four year program uniquely designed for students interested in the field of mass communication. To illustrate, enrolled students take pre-AP and AP English courses, a video production course and a digital and web design course. Specifically, I teach two levels of the digital and web design course to high school juniors and seniors enrolled in the program.

In addition, I also serve as coordinator for the Individual Student Alternative Education Plan Program for Roanoke County Schools. A program that serves students ages 16-18 and at risk of dropping out of high school, to earn their GED.

My Journey

While earning my masters degree in business administration and before becoming a teacher, I interned as a media assistant in the sports information office at Radford University. It was here, that I first learned about the field of communication and therefore began writing sports stories, assisting with game day activities, and maintaining content for the web.

After completing my masters degree, I began working as an administrative assistant for a local retirement planning company. During part of my three years with this company, I simultaneously served as the assistant girls basketball coach at Cave Spring High School. On account of my coaching experience I decided to pursue a career in teaching.

Subsequently, in August of 2008, I received my first teaching position at the middle school level where I taught keyboarding at the 7th and 8th grade levels and a business education interest block at the 6th grade level. My areas of teaching endorsement include business education technology and computer science.

Outside the Classroom

When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy freelancing graphic and web design work, camping and hiking, and working out.

My Goals

Over the next few years I hope to transition from being a classroom teacher to an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher. I also hope to grow a freelance business in digital media and social media marketing.
